This week has seen the the deaths of two leading lights and activists in the North American security community: Robert Garigue here in Canada and Laurie H. McQuillan in Washington.
The will both be sorely missed by their colleagues, friends and family.

GARIGUE, Robert John Peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 in Montreal, Robert John Garigue, in his 55th year. Vice President for Information Integrity and Chief Security Executive, Bell Canada. Chief Information Security Officer, Bank of Montreal, retired. Lieutenant Commander, retired, of the Canadian Forces. PhD in Management (Carleton); MSc (Claremont); B.A.A. (Montreal). Beloved husband of Carol Ann (nee Rose). Loving father of Alexandra and Francesca. Survived by brother Pierre and sister Vivian Vallarino (Victorio). Devoted son of Philippe and Amalia Maria Garigue.
Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore Dr. and Baseline Rd.), on Sunday 7-9 p.m., Monday 2-4 p.m., and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Jane Goodall Institute ( www.janegoodall.org ) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
I first met Robert in the early 80s at Glendon College where his father was Dean. I saw him revitalise and rebuild the security department at the Bank of Montreal in Toronto and communicate his vision to many others.

Robert’s family has encouraged and has now established the Robert Garigue Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be established at Carlton University, where Robert earned his PhD and where his wife Carol is employed.

LAURIE H. McQUILLANPassed away on Friday, January 5, 2007 at her home in Manassas, VA, at age 52, of cancer. Career consultant in information security and technology. Laurie was a co-owner of the Cashwell Group and a hearty contributor to the CISSPFORUM. Of note is the Laurie H.
